We Indians celebrate festivals round the year with great pomp off. These celebrations are incomplete without delicious and yummy food. Mouthwatering and sizzling food is a delicacy of all festivals celebrated across India. As the festival of Rakhi (brother and sister love bond) is approaching, let’s look at a few healthy snacking and eating tips. Do not have the guilt while enjoying the food during these festivals. Eat with a heart full of love, enjoyment, and passion.
- BEVERAGES/ DRINKS: Say no to carbonated and artificial flavor drinks this festive season. There are a variety of healthy and homemade drinks to choose from. Try out coconut water, lemon water, Jal jeera, and a homemade mojito with mint leaves, Aam Panna, or some fruit smoothies. You can also add chia seeds to them to enhance their nutritional value.
- SNACKS: Indian families believe in five coarse meals for celebrating any festival. Snacks can’t be left alone. Avoid oily and unhealthy snacks this festive season. As the pandemic is still not over, try few healthy snack options at home. One can go for grilled snacks like paneer, broccoli, pineapple, potato, etc. We can also try assorted vegetables with mushrooms, sevpuri, and homemade cheesy dip with fresh salad.
- MAIN COURSE: After having snacks and beverages, people are usually lean view towards the main course. Try Indian delicacies and enjoy the spirit of the festival. Instead of white rice you can go for brown rice, go for paranthas instead of naan, keep few varieties of salads (quinoa), and go for fruit or vegetable curd.
- DESSERTS: Desserts are a must for any festival celebration. Go for traditional desserts like phirni, kheer, coconut burfi, mango ice cream, etc. Add jiggery or honey instead of sugar to it.
Try a new twist of the festival this year. Be innovative in serving your loved ones. Happy Rakhi to all the siblings. Be safe and maintain norms of social distancing.
