Talking about the simple three-letter word ‘SEX’ is considered taboo in our highly cultured society. Forget about the population at large, couples (married) resist discussing word sex between themselves. They can indulge in a physical relationship but hesitate in discussing it in public. This is the mindset of the majority of people in the country, including highly urbanized classes in this digital age. In contrary to this, we are the rape capital of the world. We as citizens need to break this line of resistance.
Sexual health awareness is as important as any other awareness. The first initiative for World Sexual Health Day came up in 2010 and presently 35 countries are associated with it. Sexual health means positivity with regard to sexual relationships i.e. safe & healthy sexual relationships. It should be with the mutual consent of both the partners and not forceful and violent. Sexual relationship is a much broader term that includes various interrelated topics like sexual pleasure, health, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), satisfaction, and violence.
If people are comfortable with their physical relationships, they feel better about other aspects of life. If people are healthy, society and country are also on healthy lines.
We as a country have to go a long way for sexual health awareness issues. For this, we should segregate society into different segments and then impart knowledge on this topic. We as a society to progress towards healthy and better standards of living.
