We live in a society, where the word sex is not talked upon publically. Even privately, it is not discussed among people. Spreading sexual health awareness is the need of the hour in our country. As masses in our country live in rural areas, we should try and reach them also. People still hesitate in asking for sanitary pads and condoms across the counter. The following tips can be used in spreading awareness among people:
- IMPARTING SEXUAL EDUCATION TO ADOLESCENTS: The awareness of sexual education should start as early as kids are in their adolescence age. That is when girls start with the mensuration cycle and boys reach puberty. Sexual education was started by NCERT as part of their curriculum in most Indian states. In a few states parents and teachers resisted this type of education. Teachers, parents and Government should go hand-in-hand for such subject knowledge.
- SHORT DOCUMENTARY ON RADIO/ TELEVISION: NGOs and media organizations should go for short films on sexual health. This will help in creating awareness.
- DRAWBACKS OF EARLY MARRIAGE: In our country, the concept of early marriage is still prevailing. Getting married at an early age and then getting pregnant, is against the health perspective of females. Too many pregnancies and abortions hamper their sexual health. This in turn leads to mental drainage at such an early age.
- CONTRACEPTIVES: Awareness for contraceptives to be given on media. They should be distributed free of cost for poor sections of society in dispensaries. More pregnancies mean more burden to female sexual health. They should be told the benefits of the sterilization process.
- HEALTHY SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS: People should be aware of healthy physical relationships and their positive effects on a person’s life.
- COUNSELLING BEFORE MARRIAGE: Couples can go for counseling before marriage to have knowledge about upcoming life. They can be acquainted with sexual health awareness in marital status.
These small tips can bring changes in the life of citizens and a complete outlook change for society.
