Our body is exposed to harsh weather conditions. May it be the scorching heat of the Sun chilly winds or never-ending rains? Each weather brings along its own delicacies and harshness too. Skin is the only body organ that is hampered by the harshness of the weather. We need to protect and guard it against all extremes. Whether it is sunscreen in summers or cold lotions in winters, skin requires all the pampering.
The skin of maximum people becomes patchy and dry in winters. I remember writing DRY on the skin during school days. It used to become so dry. Though writing was funny, those cracks were painful too. It used to look like patchy land in deserts. The skin at times makes you feel itching, burning, rashes, or redness. It changes from time to time or season to season. Our grandmothers used to try on a few of the home remedies to nourish and keep their skin healthy. Let’s try some of the simple home remedies these winters to get that nourishing smooth skin.
- BODY MISTS: Body mists work best in all the seasons, but the ingredients differ from season to season. In summers, plain water can keep your skin hydrated and soothing. We can prepare this body mist at home in a simple way and put in a spray container. Take 4-5 hibiscus flowers and boil in water for 10 minutes. Stain the water with a strainer and add 1 teaspoon of rose water when the liquid cools. This mixture will keep your skin moisturized and hydrated in winters.
- BASIL & HONEY: Loved the honey and basil tea on cold breezy winter days. They keep our throat so soothing. This combination can work wonders for our skin too. Tulsi/ Basil have several beauty advantages due to the presence of minerals and oil. Honey has its own anti-inflammatory benefits. Just boil a few basil leaves in water and strain the mixture. Add honey to this liquid and apply it to our skin. You can wash it after 15 minutes to get the best results.
- MALAI/ CREAM PACK: This pack plays wonder for our face in winters. Our grandmother used to apply it in winters. Malai’s smooth nature helps in keeping facial skin smooth and nourishing. This is the best guard for our chapping lips too in winters. I remember my grandmother applying malai or ghee on her lips during winters.
- JOJOBA OIL: Jojoba oil helps in retaining water in our skin at the same time preventing its dryness. We can also apply coconut and almond oil during winters to get nourishing skin types.
- KEEP YOUR SHOWERS SHORT: Avoid taking long showers during winters. It makes dry skin drier. Try to avoid too hot water, instead go for lukewarm water to protect your skin from dryness. Try to use glycerin-based soaps for bathing.
- KEEP YOURSELF HYDRATED: Drinking plenty of water is the solution to most of the problems associated with our bodies. Drink plenty of water, fresh juices, and soup for that nourishing effect.
- OMEGA 3: Try to add more Omega 3 products to your diet to get balanced skin. Eat more walnuts and flax seeds during winters. Further fish also rich in Omega 3 keeps your skin and face healthy.
- WOOLLENS: Try to cover your body with shawls and gloves to protect yourself from those chilly winds. Try to avoid direct contact from dry and chilly winds.
Let’s try out these procedures to get glowing and nourishing skin during these winters.
