The whole world is under the threat of pandemics for the last 18 months. The life of people had gone for a twist. Major lifestyle changes have been experienced by all segments of people. The students are no exception to this. The complete education system had gone for a toss for the last one and a half years. The teachers and students collaboration and mutual understanding was the basis of education during these deadly waves of pandemic prevailing in the country. It was not easy for both parties to switch to this new world of education (online classes).
But now the question arises that students should move physically to school. It had started in some parts of the country. As a major chunk of the population has been vaccinated, the number of cases in most parts of the country had tripped down. The government approaches new avenues of reopening schools in the country. Let’s analyze both the pros and cons attached to the situation.
Reopening of school is of utmost importance at this point in time. Student’s educational life has taken a backseat during this time frame. The future of students especially 10th and 12th is at a stake. The social life of students has been a major setback. Their addiction to gadgets is also a serious threat. The school should be open if we consider all these parameters.
But every coin has two sides. The above-stated view was from the educational and social well-being of students. We should also consider the health aspects of students.
- School goes in our country are mostly under 18 years of age, the unvaccinated category of citizens.
- Few teachers and co-workers are also not vaccinated due to some constraints.
- As this being the rainy season in the country; other diseases like flu, dengue, etc. also start spreading. People will be confused due to this Cocktail of diseases.
- As students will meet after such a long span of time, practicing social distancing with them would be difficult.
- Another major reason is approaching the festival season of the country. Kerala was a victim of festivals only.
As the vaccine for the 12-18 category is under the rollback stage, the school reopening can be postponed for 2-3 months. Students to be vaccinated on prioritization. There can be vaccination camps in schools also. Another two months things will get streamlined and students start with physical classes at school premises. Before that classes can be planned for only 10th and 12th grade in a social distancing environment.
